In August this year, Backed by the Manchester Society of Architects, the European Architecture Students Assembly - EASA - will be held in Manchester, returning to these shores for the first time since its inception in Liverpool in 1981.
Each year EASA brings 400 of the brightest students of architecture together for two weeks of lectures, debates and principally workshops. This year's Assembly will be marked by easaDAY on the Saturday the 14th August when 9 city centre open air public spaces, as well as a number of indoor exhibition spaces, will be given over to the built results of the workshops. This will be a notable public event in the city this summer and, having worked closely with the Council's events team, EASA and the easaDAY has been recognised as part of the council's official summer events calendar, ensuring huge profile. EASA and particularly easaDAY are an opportunity for architecture to engage with all levels of the public in Manchester as well as further afield, providing a much needed lift to the industry.
EASA is a completely student driven event, organised and run by volunteer students, it has no standing affiliation with any institution, either academic or professional. The organising team has received a lot of support in terms of spaces being made available for the assembly, as well as support from Manchester City Council, Manchester School of Architecture and the University of Salford.
The EASA team is keen to provide as much profile to practices as possible at this time. For more information go to www.easauk.net or contact the team at info@easauk.net
