The Bradshaw Gass Bolton Scholarship

This scholarship has been established with a bequest from the trustees of the John Bradshaw Gass Charitable Trust to the Manchester Society of Architects to found a Scholarship in Architecture in order to give an opportunity to members, as well as student members, to make a full-time study of a subject of the applicant's choice.

Regulations

1. The Scholarship shall be known as The Bradshaw Gass Bolton Scholarship and is open to the competition of corporate members and student members of the Manchester Society of Architects.

2. The Scholarship is only tenable at the Manchester School of Architecture.  Successful candidates will be required to register as students of the School for a specific period on conditions to be agreed upon in each case by the Department of Architecture.  Candidates are advised to obtain approval from the Department for their proposed course of study before submitting an application.

3. The Scholarship shall be awarded at the discretion of the selection committee for :-

a) Under-graduate studies in Architecture

b) Post-Graduate studies in Architecture

c) Travel to other approved institutions in connection with under-graduate or post-graduate studies

4. The amount of the award shall be at the discretion of the Selection Committee and in the case of an award for a full-time post-graduate course may be the equivalent value to a full grant.

5. Applications should be in writing on the date specified from time to time by notification circulated in advance to the full membership of the Society.  Candidates will be required to attend for interview and to produce a comprehensive statement of their course of study.

6. The Selection Committee reserves the right not to make an award if in their opinion there is no candidate of suitable merit and to vary the interval between and value of each award at thier discretion.

7. The emoluments of the award shall be made in each case in such manner as shall be recommended by the Selection Committee.

8. The Scholarship shall be liable to forfeiture at any time if the holder should be guilty of misconduct or if they fail to furnish evidence of satisfactory progress.  The Selection Committee willa sk for a report from the holder's tutor at the half way stage of the Scholarship.

9. The Selction Committee may at their discretion renew a Scholarship for a further period.

10. The Selection Committee shall consist of the following persons ; a chariman, to be nominated by the President of the Manchester Society of Architects, three members of the Society, two representatives of the Manchester School of Architecture and a representative of the trustees.  The Committee can at their discretion co-opt other persons onto the Committee.

11. Successful candidates may be required by the Selecation Committee to present the results of their study on completion to the Manchester Society of Architects in a manner and time to be agreed.

12. The closing date for applications is normally the end of January each year.
